Partnerships

Yale Hospitality cultivates partnerships with like-minded food organizations. We seek to develop Better for You options across our menus and throughout the Yale Food System.

Our procurement has developed over the past decade to target emerging trends and provide creative menu choices for our students.  We work in collaboration with our suppliers to develop products for emerging trends and to verify the earliest proofs of these concepts. Our effort to put novel foods in front of our students, accommodate emerging public health concerns and to have a dialogue with our educated consumers helps us to shape the Yale Food System. As an organization that has implemented many aspects of sustainability, we look forward to sharing our experience and ideas with our corporate partners.

We thoughtfully take food service organizations from linear to circular - and from transactional to transformational.  We carefully measure and demonstrate the impact that Yale and its partners have on their circles of influence.

Community

As with any professional food service — from restaurants to catering to campus dining — our objective is to prevent food waste whenever possible.

In our wider circle of responsibility to the New Haven community, Hospitality works together with our residential dining and central kitchens to collect leftover food on a weekly basis. We coordinate our efforts with two student-run organizations, Yale Community Kitchen (YCK) and Kitchen to Kitchen (K2K), to create a steady flow of donation pick ups.

For over a decade, Yale Hospitality has donated meals to the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK) – an organization which provides food assistance to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or living in poverty. In addition, we host an annual Breaking Bread Dinner in support of DESK, generating over $50,000 for people in need over the first three years.

Due to the ebb and flow of academic schedules and vacation breaks, Hospitality also works with Haven’s Harvest, a local organization that coordinates volunteer drivers to transfer food directly from donors to community partner sites within a 15 minute radius, to backfill any gaps left by student organizations’ schedules. As a result, we have implemented a set schedule of food donations to those who are in need to help alleviate food insecurity throughout our community.

Industry

Yale Hospitality cultivates partnerships with like-minded food organizations throughout the industry. As our organization has implemented many aspects of sustainability, we look forward to sharing our experiences and incubating ideas with select corporate partners.

Working in collaboration with our suppliers, Hospitality’s procurement has developed over the past decade to target emerging trends and provide creative menus and innovative foods for our guests. We strive continually to  accommodate emerging public health concerns, and to have a dialogue with our educated consumers across the Yale campus and into the community for wider global impact, taking food service from transactional to transformational.
