Location. For coffee aficionados, the worst-kept secret on the Yale campus is the KBT Café on its north side, just off the first floor lobby of the Kline Biology Tower. With full-length glass on three walls, KBT’s multi-disciplinary customers have an expansive view of a nearby park while enjoying KBT’s proprietary coffees that are fresh-roasted and fresh-brewed on-site. During the school year, KBT is open from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm (in summer until 2:00 pm).
Menu. KBT customers can choose from a diverse menu that includes fresh baked goods, hot and cold entrée sandwiches, flat breads, smoothies and specialty salads. Fresh-roasted coffee is the signature attraction, and KBT aims to please with state-of-the-art equipment that is used to roast the fresh green coffee beans that are delivered to the site weekly. It produces four proprietary coffees, including Daterra, a signature Brazilian beverage that is a campus favorite.
What Makes the KBT Café Special. The KBT Café was built to replace an aging foodservice on the Biology Tower’s top floor, a remote location that was inconvenient for most customers in that part of campus. In contrast, KBT now provides both an attractive gathering place and greater accessibility for the students, faculty and visitors that make up the diverse community on Yale’s “Science Hill.” Cross-discipline conversation is at the top of the menu at the KBT Café
